PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC), a subsidiary of Indonesia’s coal powerhouse PT Bumi Resources Tbk, plans to maintain an annual production of 53.5 million tonnes (mnt) of coal from 2024 to 2026, following a government approval of its Work Plan and Budget (RKAB).
The RKAB for 2024 allocates a production quota of 53.5 mnt for KPC, remaining consistent until 2026. Despite this planned production, actual coal output may exceed expectations, as evidenced by KPC surpassing its 2023 target with a production of 54 mnt. For the first quarter of 2024, KPC has set a production target of 14.5 mnt.
Located in East Kalimantan, KPC holds total mineable coal reserves of 600 mnt, operating 10 mines currently. With two additional mines slated to commence operations in the latter half of the year, KPC anticipates boosting its production capacity by up to 1 mnt annually.
Parent company Bumi Resources has secured RKAB approval from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) for the 2024-2026 period, encompassing both KPC and PT Arutmin Indonesia, another subsidiary mine.
Bumi Resources aims for coal production of up to 80 mnt in 2024, surpassing the actual output of 78 mnt in 2023. This ambitious target underscores the company’s commitment to leveraging its assets for increased production and market competitiveness.
