The union environment and forest ministry has accorded Environment Clearance (EC) to Coal India subsidiary Mahanadi Coalfields ltd (MCL)’s Lingaraj opencast mines project for further expansion of 20 MnT pa production from 13 MnT pa in Talcher Tahasil of Angul district, Odisha.
The project is located at an area of 1,493 hectres and the total geological reserve is 485 MnT. Out of the total, minable reserve is estimated at 458 MnT. MCL will invest about INR 383.16 crore in the expansion project.
The expansion project will be beneficial for NTPCs Kanhia Super Thermal Power plant located in Talcher as it will receive coal linkage from this open cast mines.
