Commissioning
of steel melting shop may miss deadline
Bhubaneswar:
The commissioning of the Steel melting shop (SMS) of state owned steel maker
Nilachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) may be delayed due to a fresh round of trouble
in the senior management of the company.
Recently,
NINL Managing Director Satya Prakash Pattnaik resigned from his post after
difference in opinion with the senior management of MMTC, the promoter and
majority shareholder of NINL. Mr Pattnaik was spearheading the installation and
commissioning of the Steel melting Shop which was scheduled to be commissioned
by December this year. With this, the company’s plans to produce steel with
this expansion project may also be delayed.
The
trouble erupted after the senior management of MMTC turned down the demands by
the employee union for payment of certain amount bonus during the Dushurra
festival. Later Mr Pattnaik granted the demand unilaterally, which has irked
the Bosses in MMTC. However the MMTC authorities are yet to take a decision on
this and a decision may be taken at the board meeting scheduled to be held on 10th
of this month.
The
Kalinganagar based NINL, jointly promoted by MMTC under the union Commerce
ministry and Industrial Promotion and investment Corporation of Odisha ltd
(IPICOL) is the largest producer of pig iron since 2004-05. The company is
planning to produce products like billets,
bars and wire rods of different grades and sizes after the ongoing expansion
process. NINL has its own captive iron ore mine and power plant to meet its own
requirement.
