Bhubaneswar: The union Ministry of Environmental and Forest has granted Environmental Clearance (EC) to Tata Steel’s ferro-Alloys plant at Joda in Odisha for expansion Ferro-Manganese capacity from 0.054 Million Tonnes per Annum (MTPA) to 0.06 MTPA and addition of 0.06 MTPA Sillico-Manganese plant and 0.05 MTPA Manganese sinter plant.
The ministry in its letter dated 5th of November has intimated the company about grant of EC. It may be noted that Tata Steel had applied for grant of EC to the ministry on 22nd May along with the reports of Environment Impact Assessment (EIA).
The company has proposed for expansion of High Carbon Ferro-Manganese (HC Fe Mn) production capacity from the existing 0.0504 MTPA to 0.06 MTPA by design modifications in the existing 1×9 MVA furnace and with addition of 0.06 MTPA Sillico-Mangnese plant (Si- Mn) and 0.05 MTPA manganese sinter plant. The expansion project will require only 13.7 acres of land; however, the company need not have to aquire fresh land for the project as it has already the requiredland in its possession.
The company will source raw material from its own Manganese mines in Odisha.
