Pellet movement through railways remained almost unchanged in Sept’15 as compared to Aug’15. In Sept’15, total, 319,550 MT pellets were transported through 83 rakes. Tata Steel continued to be the major buyer.
Jindal Steel & Power Ltd, a major supplier of pellets in merchant market and having pellet capacity of 9 MnT, supplied 50 rakes i.e. 192,500 MT pellets in Sept’15 against 36 rakes in Aug’15 i.e. 138,600 MT pellets.
Another major supplier, Arya Iron & Steel supplied only 26,950 MT pellets via 7 rakes in Sept’15. It had supplied 103.950 MT pellets via 27 rakes in Aug’15. Reasons for less movement of pellet rakes by Arya Iron & Steel was maintenance shutdown of its plant.
BRPL, having a 4 MnT benefication plant in Odisha, supplied 46,200 MT pellets in consecutively in Aug’15 and Sept’15.
Tata Steel remains the major pellet buyer in Sept’15
In Sept’15, Tata Steel sourced 142,450 MT pellets from JSPL via 37 rakes, 23,100 MT pellets from BRPL via 6 rakes and 23,100 MT pellets from Odisha Minerals (Adhunik) via 6 rakes.
Cumulatively, the steel giant loaded 254,760 MT pellets via 66 rakes during last two months (49 rakes in Sept’15 and 17 rakes in Aug’15).
After dispatches were stopped from Tata Steel’s Noamundi Mines from 06 Aug’15, the company raised its procurement of pellets from JSPL and iron ore from Odisha mines.
Recently, Jharkhand HC allowed resumption of operations at Tata Noamundi Mines. These mines are crucial as they supplies raw material to its Jamshedpur steel plant of capacity 9.8 MnT.
