MMTC Re-issues Coking Coal Import Tender

MMTC, one of largest international trading corporations, has reissued its previous 60,000 MT import tender for Australian hard coking coal which was scheduled in August, 2015.

Yesterday Metals & Minerals Trading Corporation (MMTC), on behalf of NINL, reissued its earlier coking coal purchase tender for 60,000 MT which was floated in July. The company has issued the same tender again as it did not received the expected response earlier owing to the specific grade required by the company. Only few participants had bid for supply of imported coking coal in the previous event which was conducted on 12 Aug’15.

As per the current issue of the tender, all such interested overseas suppliers and traders can participate in the auction who can supply freshly mined prime quality washed Australian HCC coking coal which will be delivered at Paradip Port in October/November 2015.

One of the officials said, “Earlier the same tender of 60,000 MT Australian coking coal could not find a good deal. The specific grade requirement of the company resulted in poor participation by the suppliers.”

In this coking coal supply tender the company has exempted MTPL for EMD/ bid bond and performance guarantee submission as the company is as a subsidiary of MMTC.

Imported Australian Coking Coal to India
Australian imported coking coal prices to India have declined about 4-5% in August. Current offers for Australia’s premium hard coking coal are assessed at USD 91-92/MT CFR India East Coast ports, which were at about USD 95-96/MT CFR India in July’15. Meanwhile, Australian Hard coking coal is being traded at USD 87-88/MT CFR India. Also, Australian PCI coal is offered at USD 61/MT FoB Australia. Australian coking coal prices have declined on the grounds of low buying in global market, coupled with constantly falling steel prices.
