Odisha based transporters continue their strike for fifth day amid state government’s decision to cap freight rates.
Transporters (truckers) in Odisha continue their strike for fifth day that started on 20th July, in order to oppose state government’s decision to fix a ceiling on transportation charges. Odisha government has fixed a ceiling charge of INR 5.70 to 6.00/MT per km of a max on transport rates for domestic movement, which is currently around INR 9.00-12.00/MT per km.
Dayal Singh, the president of truck association of Keonjhar district says, “No official has approached us to listen to our demand, strike may continue for longer period. There are approx 40,000 trucks in Keonjhar and Sundargarh District.”
Odisha Iron Ore Production
Odisha is the largest iron ore producing state in the country, which contributes around 40-45% of India’s total production of 123 MnT in FY15 and 153 MnT in FY16. If strike continues for a long time, iron ore supply will certainly get hampered.
