HC Ferro Chrome

Indian Chrome Ore Production in Q1 FY16

Compared to the first quarter of FY15 production has increased by 15%, 589,943 MT of Chrome ore production Q1 of FY15 pushed up to 680,184 MT in Q1 of FY16. This can be mainly attributed to the mining restrictions imposed by the Supreme Court on Tata Steel’s Chromite mine. The lease validity for the mine had lapsed and mining was stopped midway through the quarter, on 17 May 2014.

As per the monthly returns submitted by the miners to the Odisha Government, chrome ore production by Captive and Non-captive producers is almost equal for the month of June, FY16.

Languishing ferro chrome prices and rising production costs for mining during the rainy season could further result in reduced production of Chrome ore in the Q2 of FY16.
