Pellet movement through railways has increased by 12% in June’15 as compared to May’15, as sponge makers preferred pellets over lumps. In June’15, total 54 rakes were loaded, against 48 rakes in May’15 and 30 rakes in April’15 (each rake carries 3,850 MT).
Jindal Steel & Power Ltd, having an annual pellet capacity of 9 MnT, supplied 19 rakes this month in merchant market. Total pellet supplied by JSPL is 73,150 MT.
Arya Iron & Steel, merchant manufacturer in Odisha having a capacity of 1.2 MnT, supplied total 12 rakes in June. Out of this, 3 rakes were supplied to Ispat Damodar, and 2 each to Bihar Foundry, SPS Steel & Brahmaputra Metaliks..
Pellet prices in the past 6 months fell by over INR 2,000/MT on account of subdued demand and falling prices of sponge iron.
