Ministry of Steel proposes to add steel products under BIS certifications. Order will come into force after 3 months from date of its publication.
In a draft dated 12 May’15, issued by Ministry of Steel proposed to add more steel products under BIS certifications marks. The government has also invited all concerned stakeholders for their comments on the above proposal. The last date of submission of comments/views/ suggestions/ is 15 June’15. Order will come into force after 3 months from date of its publication.
As per sources, the said proposal is intended to curb rising import from China and other ASEAN countries. According to JPC- Ministry of Steel, around 1.7 MnT bar and rod was imported in India in FY15, which is around 190% increase against FY14. However, the proposal will also be implied on domestic producers.
