Rise in demand for Pig iron in Turkish domestic market gave way to increase in imports of the material towards the end of 2012.
Pig iron imports into Turkey moved up by 28.62% to 1.23 million tons (mt) in January to Nov 12 as compared to the same period in 2011.
In Nov 12, a total of 98,168 tons of the material was imported by Turkey, an increase of 14.14% in comparison to Nov 11.
In Oct 12, Turkish Pig iron imports stood at 78,341 tons, up by 25.31% from that of Nov 12.
In Nov 12, Ukraine (91,415 tons), Russia (6,464 tons) and Georgia (289 tons) were the major suppliers of Pig iron to Turkey.
The average import price stood at $385.50/MT cif, standing at $404.62/MT cif Oct 12.
Total revenue generated from Pig iron imports in Nov and Oct was $37.84 million (m) and $31.70 m respectively.
