The government of Canada blocked the Sukuna coal mine project proposed by Glencore in British Columbia due to significant environmental damage. The project is an open pit metallurgical mine from where coal produced was to be exported. The project was supposed to produce 3 mnt metallurgical coal per year. However, environmental activists suggest it will threaten caribou and grizzly bear habitat.
