South Africa: Coal output falls marginally during Jan-Oct’22

South Africa’s coal output during Jan-Oct’22 was 193 mnt, down 2.28% y-o-y. This came amid train derailment, worker’s strike, and several force majeure incidents by Transnet rail company. The nation’s total coal output for October’22 was recorded at 21.1 mnt, up by 3% y-o-y as against 20.5 mnt in October’21. However, South African thermal coal price for 4800 NAR is currently assessed at $140/ FoB, up by 54% y-o-y, amid changed trade dynamics.
