India: Aluminium imports rise marginally by 4% m-o-m in August

India’s aluminium imports (of all categories) increased by a marginal 4% in August 2022 to 1.08 million tonnes (mnt) as against 1.03 mnt in July 2022, as per customs data maintained with SteelMint.

    Major exporters were Guinea (57% share) followed by Indonesia and Vietnam (9% each).

  • Aluminium scrap: Imports were almost stable at 154,126 t in August against 153,666 t in July.

    Cumulative imports were recorded at 1.13 mnt in January-August 2022. Major exporting countries in this period were USA, contributing 31% share and the UK and Saudi Arabia at 10% each.

  • Semi-finished aluminium: Imports dropped by 27% to 20,644 t in August as against 28,255 t in July.
  • Finished aluminium: Finished aluminium products imports stood at 41,339 t in the period under review as against 40,366 t in July, up 2.4% m-o-m. Major exporters were Guinea (57% share) followed by Indonesia and Vietnam (9% each).

    Imports of aluminium longs were down by 16.5% m-o-m to 4,164 t in August while those of aluminium flats were at 37,175 t, up by 5.07% m-o-m.

  • Ores/concentrates: Imports were recorded at 863,208 t, up by 6.27% in August compared to 812,265 t in July.
