Kazakhstan temporarily bans coal exports to meet domestic demand

In a bid to ensure sufficient domestic supplies, the Kazakhstan government has temporarily banned coal exports for the next six months. Ever since Europe imposed sanctions on Russian coal, Kazakhstan emerged as a coal exporter to fill in the supply gap. As per Eurostat data, the country delivered 1.5 mnt of coal to the EU during Jan-May this year, almost double of CY21’s volumes.
