Poland to raise coal imports to rebuild inventory for winter power supply

Power utilities in Poland are set to import 4.5 mnt of coal by end-October in a bid to restock inventory ahead of the winter season. The supply will be directed towards households. Poland depends 80% on coal for power generation and has been seeking alternate origins to replace Russian supplies after it imposed sanctions in April. Poland’s increasing imports are likely to keep thermal coal prices elevated.
