Elevated prices drag down US thermal coal exports by 18% in May’22

Amid elevated global thermal coal prices, exports from USA fell by 18% m-o-m to 2.4 mnt in May’22, customs data showed. Shipments to India recorded the highest volume at 0.55 mnt, but fell by 5% m-o-m. Shipments to the Netherlands were at 0.4 mnt and Japan at 0.3 mnt. During Jan-May period, total thermal coal exports from USA were at 12.6 mnt, down 6% y-o-y.
