Indonesian miner Bara Daya Energi has quoted lowest bid in Coal India’s (CIL’s) imported coal supply tenders intended for medium-term.
It may be recalled that CIL had initiated tender process for procuring imported coal for thermal power plants upon government’s directives. These were executed via three tenders involving delivery of imported coal on FOR basis: one for short-term and two for medium-term supplies.
The two tenders for medium-term pertain to supply of 3 million tonnes of coal at the east coast and west coast of the country. In the techno-commercial round, only two participants have shown interest, with Bara Daya Energi emerging as the lowest bidder ahead of Adani Enterprises on both occasions.

Quantity in INR crore
This came after CIL had opened technical bids for its short-term tender a few days back. Here, Adani Enterprises was the lowest bidder followed by Mohit Minerals and Chettinad Logistics.
Interestingly, Bara Daya Energi had also taken part in the short-term tender, but its bid was rejected on grounds of discrepancy found in document submission.
Next up, the submitted bids would be further evaluated before awarding these tenders to the eligible participant.
Coal inventory at Indian power plants have gradually improved to 27.3 mnt as on 6 July 2022, recovering from the lows of 21.94 mnt seen in April, 2022. The additional supplies via these tenders are seen as a precautionary measure to tide over the expected disruption in domestic coal supply during the monsoons.
