Ghanashyam Misra & Sons, having mining operations in Gorumahisani, Mayurbhanj district of Odisha and Environmental Clearance (EC) of 0.75 MnT pa, has raised prices by INR 400/MT as well as offering Iron ore to outside states.

Prices have strengthened because of royalty rate hike to 15%, which was 10% earlier-not because of domestic shortfall or improved demand. Indian government notified the increased royalty rates of 53 minerals in Government of India gazette notification dated 01 Sept, 2014. The increased royalty rates of mineral have come into force from date of the notification.
The miner is offering Iron ore to consumers located outside Odisha too, provided surplus quantity is available. Sponge iron manufacturers are mainly buying the raw material. Since Iron ore fines are of low grade (Fe 57-59%), Pellet plants lacking beneficiation facilities, would find it tough to utilize ore.
S N Mohanty, having Iron ore mining operations in Sundergarh district of Odisha and EC limit of 0.7 MnT pa, has by now used its EC limit.
T P Mohanty, having Iron ore mining operations in Naibega Katupali, Keonjhar district of Odisha and EC of 0.6 MnT pa, isn’t open to new orders over lack of fresh material available. Probably, it could resume production next month.
Other than Ghanashyam Misra & Sons, only some of the other Odisha based miners such as Rungta, Indrani Pattnaik and Essel Mining are offering Iron ore presently .
Directorate of Mines, Odisha government, is looking forward to receive an official notification, as the state government has permitted to sell Iron ore laying at mines head of 9 non-operational mines.
