China: Crude stainless steel output decreases by 8%, y-o-y, in Q1CY’22

According to statistics from the Stainless Steel Branch of the China Special Steel Enterprises Association, the national crude stainless steel output in the first quarter of 2022 was 8.011 million tonnes (mnt), a year-on-year decrease of 697,000 t or 8%.

The output of Cr-Ni series crude stainless steel was 4.064 mnt, an increase of 177,000 t, or 4.56%, and its share was 50.73%, an increase of 6.1 percentage points year-on-year.

The output of Cr-Mn series crude stainless steel was 2.356 mnt, a decrease of 568,000 t a decrease of 19.41%. Cr series crude stainless steel output was 1.538 mnt, a decrease of 300,000 t, a decrease of 16.33%, and a share of 19.2%, a decrease of 1.91 points percentage point.

The crude steel output of duplex stainless steel was 52,387 t, a year-on-year decrease of 6,340 t or 10.8%.

In the first quarter of 2022, the country imported 944,900 t of stainless steel, an increase of 402,100 t or 74.08% year-on-year. In Q12022, the country exported 1.06 mnt of stainless steel, an increase of 191,400 t or 21.98% year-on-year. In the first quarter of 2022, the apparent consumption of stainless steel was 7,099, 900 t, a year-on-year decrease of 436, 600 t, or 5. 79%.
