Iran’s steel production in the just-concluded Persian Year (21 March 2021-20 March 2022) fell compared to the previous year, according to the latest data released by the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA).
- The country produced 27.90 million tonnes (mnt) of semi-finished steel in the period under review, down 8% y-o-y. Billets and blooms accounted for 16.66 mnt of the total semi-finished output, a significant y-o-y fall of 11%, while slabs production was down marginally by 2% y-o-y to 11.24 mnt.
- The total production of finished steel stood at 19.63 mnt in the period under review, lower by 5% y-o-y.
- Production of long and flat steel stood at 11.21 mnt and 8.43 mnt, down by 3% and 8%, respectively in this period.
- As per data released by ISPA, direct reduced iron (DRI) production stood at 30.30 mnt in the 12 months of the Iranian year, down by 3% when compared to the previous year.
The production of semi-finished, finished steel and DRI declined as steel mills were forced to lower power and natural gas consumption during the summer and winter seasons.
