South African RB1 (NAR 6000 kcal/kg) coal prices rose to an all-time high of $311/t FOB on 1 Mar’22, up $49/t d-o-d as buyers scouted for alternative coal supplies amid the raging geopolitical tension between Russia and Ukraine. The conflict between the two counties has forced several others to back out of Russian coal purchases, while European power utilities have raised their purchases from South Africa.
