The M.B. Shah commission of enquiry may submit its final report in July this year, which is investigating on irregularities in mining areas of Odisha.
In a unique effort towards bringing socio-economic change in the poor but mineral rich state of Odisha, Shah Commission today welcomed the Mega CSR plan under Gramin Vikas Chaitanya Kendra (GVCK). Mining companies of Odisha formed GVCK with Rs 100 Cr fund for the development of Sundergarh and Keonjhar.
“It is indeed a very good beginning. I believe that if this plan succeeds then it will not just benefit the people of Odisha but would also prove as a benchmark for the other statesâ€Â, said Justice M.B. Shah. The Chief Secretary of Odisha, B.K. Patnaik was also present in the hearing to ensure that all the plans were well communicated to the government.
Detailing the CSR objectives for the state, Gopal Subramaniam, counsel for the merchant miners briefed Justice Shah about the areas that have been identified for the CSR activities. Besides, the much talked about Environment, Education and Health concerns, different aspects like bringing in clean Energy, developing roads and Infrastructure, reviving agriculture, establishing special care and support setup like Old Age homes, Children homes were a major part of the plan.
The contributory members of GVCK are Thriveni Earth Movers Pvt Ltd, KJSA, Prashant Ahluwalia, Indrani Patnaik, D.R. Patnaik, Tarni Minerals, R.P. Sao and KMC.
Noticing that health is a primary concern for the people of Odisha, a multi speciality hospital is being setup which will cater to the poor people and would provide them best health services at no cost. Besides, a rural health programme and mobile health services have also been planned.
Besides, the trust has planned to establish two DAV colleges in the state that would provide mid day meal as well.
The plan focuses on fulfilling the basic needs of the Keonjhar and Sundergarh district. About Rs 100 Crore is expected to be contributed from by the miners, where each miner will contribute 5% of its profit after tax every year.
Justice M.B. Shah has appreciated the effort and shown his willingness to take it to the platform where it can be converted into reality.
Probably, making it a historical moment that for the first time a large number of miners have come together for the upliftment and development of the society.
