India: Alang scrap ship imports fall by 25%, m-o-m, in Dec’21

A total of 18 vessels with combined light displacement tonnage (LDT) of 111,167 were received at Alang for recycling in Dec’21, down 25% compared with 148,112 LDT in Nov. SteelMint data shows that 207 ships were beached at Alang for demolition in CY’21. Amidst supply concerns and rising prices, ship-breaking import prices in Bangladesh are assessed at $610/LDT and $600/LDT in Pakistan, while prices stand at around $565/LDT at Alang.
