- China will maintain an export duty of 40% on steel scrap, while imports will not attract any tariff, as per reports.
- China imported over 450,000 t of scrap till Sept of CY’21 after restrictions were lifted on 1 Jan’21.
- Scrap exports are being discouraged to ensure domestic supply, while imports are duty-free in view of the country’s carbon-neutral pledge and rising EAF steelmaking capacity.
