China: Tangshan lifts orange smog alert but steel curbs to continue

China’s top steelmaking city of Tangshan has lifted the orange alert for air pollution on 16 Dec’21, although steel production restrictions will continue till further notice.

  • Nine blast furnaces, which were banked earlier, will resume operations but will need to prepare for banking around 20 Dec’21.
  • Coking units, rated C and D, will be required to discharge coke after 48 hours, while B-rated units need to follow this rule before 20 Dec.
