Taiwan’s China Steel Corporation (CSC) announced on 5 Oct’21 that it has set a goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, as per SteelDaily. The company also said it plans to replace its sixth blast furnace with a more upgraded, eco-friendly one, keeping in mind the global carbon emission reduction trends.
The company further said, by 2025, it plans to reduce its carbon emissions by 7% and for this purpose it is replacing the existing blast furnace with a low-carbon or zero-emission one that would address its emission issues in the medium to long term.
CSC has been reducing its carbon emissions for the past 10 years by 1.35 million tonnes or 0.65% annually. In June, this year, the company said it would impose a carbon surcharge on exports of steel for the first time in Asia from the first quarter of 2022.
