ON HOLD : CIL Coal Import

As the Coal India Limited (CIL) had planned to import coal around 20 MnT quantity to bridge the gap in demand and supply in 2013-14 but due to the slower growth in demand compared to initial statistics, and 7.4% rise in supplies (off-take) may help Coal India to satisfy its supply commitments through its own production.

Coal India customers, who have nodded on supply of imported coal is keeping quite on same supplies. And because of the no firm commitments from the power sector customer, Coal India is Idle on importing coal.

Officials added “Ideally, CIL should supply the balance quantities through imports. However, we are yet to see any consumer interest in this regard”.
