SteelMint’s price assessment for sponge iron in Odisha’s Rourkela has increased by INR 450/t on 22 Jul’21. Around 3,880 t of C-DRI (70:30 mix materials) deals were confirmed at INR 30,700-31,000/t exw. In addition, a deal for 500 t C-DRI lumps was reported at around INR 31,200/t exw for Jalna (Maharashtra). According to sources, active demand amid limited availability of raw materials as well as rising billet prices have led to a hike in sponge iron prices.
