Russia’s leading steelmaker Evraz has signed a memorandum with Russian railways to produce steel rails with low carbon footprint in an effort to reduce emissions, as per sources. These ‘green rails’ will be manufactured from steel with 75% lower carbon emission footprint compared to the traditional blast furnace/converter technology route. The first delivery of rails is scheduled for 2023.
