China’s Tsingshan to set up 1.2 mn t steel plant in Zimbabwe

Stainless steel major China’s Tsingshan Holding Group plans to build a carbon steel plant with a capacity of 1.2 mn t per annum in Zimbabwe, the company said in a statement on 31 May ’21. The project will be operated by Tsingshan’s unit Zhejiang Dinson Holding Co Ltd, as per reports. Dinson already has ferrochrome smelters in Zimbabwe with annual capacity at 100,000 t. However, the statement did not specify when the construction of the project would begin. Tsingshan is expected to start developing an iron ore mine in the African country.
