Turkish steelmaker Kardemir has contracted SMS Group to modernize the wire rod mill supplied by the latter in 2013. The scope of the modernization covers a loop laying head, a coil forming chamber, a new laying pipe holder and a laying pipe with a new diameter, as well as the automation system for the new coil forming area, which will be integrated into the overall automation system of the SBQ plant. The wire rod mill has an annual production capacity of 700,000 t bar steel, bar-in-coil and wire rod.
