The Supreme Court on Thursday holds its decision on blanket ban on Iron ore mining in Goa, which was implemented on 5 Oct, 2012 after Shah Commission found out illegal mining in the state.
Mining will not start before September, if verdict comes in favor
The Supreme Court constituted monitoring committee has said that Goa can sustain extraction of Iron ore to the tune 27.5 MnT pa, but has recommended 20 MnT as the permissible limit.
The Court did not fix any date for the verdict but it is expected that something positive will be come out in next 2-week. Sources say that even Court decides to resume mining in Goa it may not start before September.
E-auction of lying Iron Ore in the State
First shipment of 70,000 MT Iron ore after e-auction will be conducted in the month of March. Indian exporters, who participated in the e-auction, mentioned that there are problems in transporting Iron ore lying at port, jetties & mines. They also mentioned that port trust (which comes under Central Government) is asking for steep charges, whereas ore e-auction is being taken care by the state government.
