Leading Mine Developer and Operator (MDO) Thriveni Earth Movers (P) Ltd. (TEMPL) has bagged a contract for second round of the exploration work at Mozambique from Coal India, the Indian Government owned Coal behemoth. TEMPL had also executed the first round of Coal exploration work in the South African Country.
According to a senior official at TEMPL, an agreement has been signed with Coal India on 31st of last month. Coal India will invest Rs 350 crore in the second round of exploration work for drilling down to 30 thousand meters. A Coal India official has also confirmed the development.
In February, Coal India had invited bids for the exploration contract.
Coal India Africana Limitada (CIAL) had won a five-year license for exploration and development of mines in Mozambique in August, 2009. According to CIL, two coal blocks A-1 and A-2 at Motaize, in Tete Province of Mozambique, are spread over 200 sq kms and their exploration may take over two years.
Apart from Africa, TEMPL also holds a coal mining lease in Jambi province in Indonesia. It has also incorporated a separate subsidiary PT Minemax for the 3700 hectares coal block and has been importing coal from the island country for the last 4 years.
