China: Railway freight volume jumps with 23% rise in coal movement for power plants

China’s railway freight collection hit a new high in Jan’21 with the transport volume of thermal coal increasing 23% y-o-y to 120 mn t. The State Railway Group has facilitated coal movement and kept track of inventory at power plants. An emergency supply mechanism is in place for plants with coal inventory of less than 7 days. About 13 days of inventory is being maintained at 350 power plants with direct railway supply.
