“Country is facing acute fuel shortages. In the current fiscal there may be a shortfall in production of around 5 MnT”, said by S Narsing Rao, Coal India Chairman & Managing Director.
Coal India is unable to achieve its target owing to several factors:
- The heavy rain in Odisha, which caused disruption at the Talcher plant under the Mahanadi Coalfields in October.
- Mining activities at Talcher Coalfields in Odisha came to a halt on 29 Nov, 2013 due to violence after a group of labourers protested the arrest of some of their colleagues at Jagannath area in Angul district.
Coal India plans to cut its FY15 production target
Coal India had set a target of 530 MnT for FY15, but now planning to scale down its production target to 507 MnT instead of 530 MnT.
“The target will be possible only when at least two railway lines will start in Jharkhand & Odisha. This project is pending from a long time. So, unfortunately we are not in a position to say that we can achieve the target”, said by S Narsing Rao, Coal India Chairman and Managing Director.
