Iranian steelmakers posted a 7.5% y-o-y growth in semi-finished steel output to 15.27 mn t during the first three months of the current Persian year (20 Mar’20-20Jun’20), according to the Iran Steel Producer Association (ISPA).
DRI production increased by 12% y-o-y
Iran posted a 12% growth in DRI output to 8.13mn t against 7.27 mn t produced during the same period last year.
Major DRI producers during the period were Mobarekah Steel Company which produced 2.01mnt, posting a growth of 3% y-o-y. Khouzestan Steel Company was the second largest DRI producer which grew output at 15% y-o-y at 1.25mnt.
Other major producers include Chadormalu Mining and Industrial Company (0.42 mn t), South Kaveh Steel (0.42 mnt), Gol Gohar-1 (0.41mn t), HOSCO (0.40mn t) and Saba Steel (0.40 mn t).
Billet and bloom production fall
Billet and bloom production fell by 3% to around 4.12 mn t.
Major billet and bloom producers were Mobarakeh Steel Company. which produced 2.60mn t, lower by 10% y-o-y.
Khouzestan Steel Company was the second largest producer of billet and bloom, with an output of 1.02 mn t, a growth of 4% y-o-y.
Esfahan Steel Company was the third largest producer, followed by Chadormalu and South Kaveh Steel with production of 0.59 mn t, 0.25 mn t and 0.23mn t respectively.
Iran produced 3.01 mn t slab during the period, higher by 12% compared with 2.70 mn t produced in the same period last year.
Finished steel production plunged by 2% y-o-y
Iran’s finished flat steel output grew by 1% y-o-y at 5.33 mn t. HRC output was 2.29 mn t, CRC output was 0.65 mn t, colour-coated steel at 0.32 mn t and other steel at 2.06 mn t in this period.
Finished long steel production was at 2.66 mn t, including beam (0.30 mn t), rebar (2.17 mn t) and structure (0.19 mn t).
