ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel ( AM/NS)- an integrated steelmaker with steel making capacity of 10 MnT p.a. recorded rise in iron ore sourcing for the month of May’20 at 1.09 MnT, up 39% as against 0.78 MnT in Apr’20. As per sources, the company ramped up utilization to 60-65% capacity in mid May’20 from 30-35% in April and ramp-up is still going on.
Iron ore procurement from NMDC (C.G.) up 32% for the month
Steelmaker procured 697,300 MT of iron ore in May’20 from NMDC’s Bailadila mines (Chhattisgarh) via a slurry pipeline, against Apr’20 at 528,000 MT.
Sourcing from Odisha merchant mines up 66% in May’20
AM/NS sourced 371,035 MT iron ore during May’20 from Odisha’s merchant mines, an increase of 66% against Apr’20 sourcing at 223,208 MT.
Sourcing from OMC dropped 42% to 19,149 MT for the month as compared to 33,024 MT a month ago (in Apr’20).
Out of the total iron ore sourced from Odisha merchant mines in May’20, the largest share was contributed by RP Sao at 89,505 MT, followed by KJS Ahluwalia at 79,730 MT and Sarda mines at 69,682 MT.
AM/NS iron ore imports marked nil in May’20
The iron ore and pellet imports by the miner recorded nil in May’20. The imports were last seen in the month of Dec’18 at 0.15 MnT. Monthly average global iron ore fines (Fe 62%) increased significantly by 11% to USD 94/MT, CFR China in May’20 against that in last month at USD 84/MT, CFR China. The rise in global iron ore prices fetched lower interest of Indian miners in importing the raw material.
