India: SAIL Auction of Defective Blooms Witnessed Limited Response

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) conducted an auction from its central India based Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) for defective steel products on 30 May ’20. The auction witnessed limited response in terms of allotted quantity against the last auction conducted on 23 May’20.

A total quantity of 25,928 MT defective steel was put up for auction, out of which 7,118 MT (27.45%) material was sold and 18,809 MT remained unsold. In previous auction conducted on 23 May’20 share of total allotted quantity was around 50.91%.

Highlights of the auction are as follows:

Billet – Nearly 331 MT defective billets were put up for sale, out of which entire quantity got booked at INR 28,050-28,200/MT EXW and one lot 31 MT Billet above-110 booked at INR 26,100/MT EXW.

Bloom- Total of 18,474 MT Bloom-CC and Bloom-RL offered in which buyers actively participated for 17,535 MT at INR 23,200-24,050/MT EXW. However only 1,185 MT was approved by management and rest of the material were cancelled.

Slab- Approximately 898 MT CC-Slab was sold out at INR 23,550-24,100/MT EXW.
