The state government has issued an order permitting coal intake from Assam, upon the request made by the cement manufacturers.
The order issued by the department of Commerce and Industries allowed 30 coal laden trucks to be transported from Assam to Star Cements and Meghalaya Cements per day. In a special consideration, the department agreed upon transportation of 30 individual coal trucks for Dalmia Cements (Bharat) Ltd on a daily basis.
The decision is likely to benefit the cement producers as it would allow coal procurement for their respective plants to resume operation.
It is pertinent to note that coal supplies of the industries based in Meghalaya had come into scrutiny after ban on coal mining was severely imposed during the last fiscal, wherein no production was recorded in the state.
Incidentally, the coal consumers were catering their demand from nearby state of Assam, which was affected lately due to the nation-wide lock-down.
