Annual Coal Grade Declaration

CCO Extends Annual Coal Grade Declaration for FY21

Coal Controller’s Organization (CCO), the government association entitled for monitoring the quality of coal, informed that process of approving coal grades for FY21 has been delayed due to the lock-down imposed to combat COVID-19.

The essential functions of CCO listed under Colliery Control Rules, 2004, enables it to:

(a) lay down procedure and standard for sampling of coal.
(b) Inspect collieries so as to ensure the correctness of the class, grade or size of coal.

Consequently, it was notified that the grades of seams/siding of coal/lignite mines and composite grades of all the mines affixed for FY20 would remain effective in the current fiscal till further notice, except for SECL, NCL and WCL for which grade approval was already finalized.

CCO also highlighted that for new seams/siding which are going to be opened in FY21, the applied grade would be considered as ‘provisional’ subject to intimation communicated via mail.
