The union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) has granted Environmental clearance to the Serajuddin Mines for increase of production from 4.5 million tonnes to 15.15 million tonnes per annum for its Balda mines. According to the letter issued by the ministry (Serajuddin EC Letter), mines have also been granted Environmental clearance to operate crusher and screen plant within the mines. Mines is located in mineral rich belt of Keonjhar district, Odisha.
The total cost of expansion project is about INR 150 cr, environmental cost towards EMP already spent is INR 5.74 cr and another INR 4.59 cr is proposed for the same.The CSR budgetary provision allocated by the project proponent is INR 19.75 cr.

Odisha is the largest iron ore producing state in India which produced around 62 million tonnes in 2012-2013. With this expansion, Serajuddin mines will become the largest merchant iron ore miner in the state.
