Sweden iron ore exports in Q1 CY19 recorded in 5.34 MnT, down 18% as against 6.49 MnT in Q4 CY18. On yearly basis, exports fell 9% as compared to 5.88 MnT in Q1 CY18.
On monthly basis, exports for the month of Mar’19 witnessed at 2.01 MnT, up 36% as compared to 1.48 MnT in Feb’19.
Germany turn out to be the largest importer of Swedish Iron ore
Germany remains the largest iron ore importer from Sweden. Imports had increased by 37% to 1.41 MnT as against 1.03 MnT in Q4 CY’18. Netherland stood second largest importer at 0.75 MnT (down 10%).
Sweden exports to Finland, Turkey and Saudi Arabia fell for the quarter at 0.47 MnT, 0.38 MnT and 0.35 MnT respectively.
Ferrous scrap exports drop 34% in Q1’CY19
Sweden exported 0.27 MnT of ferrous scrap in Q1 CY’19, witnessing a significant drop by 34% Q-o-Q against 0.41 MnT in Q4 CY’18, on account of very limited bookings made from top importers Turkey and USA. On yearly premises, exports declined marginally 4% Y-o-Y as against 0.28 MnT ferrous scrap exports recorded in Q1 CY’18.
Turkey remained the largest importer occupying a share of 16% in total scrap exports from Sweden in Q1 CY’19. It imported 44,288 MT in Q1 CY’19, witnessing a fall of 58% Q-o-Q. Followed by other prominent importers were Vietnam (41,573 MT, down 33%) and Norway (32,516 MT, up 12%) with 15% and 12% share respectively.
Notably, US ferrous scrap imports from Sweden dropped 66% Q-o-Q to 30,733 MT in Q1’CY19 which was the 2nd largest importer with imports recorded at 91,194 MT of ferrous scrap in Q4 CY‘18.
On monthly basis, scrap exports dropped 31% M-o-M, exporting 83,669 MT in Mar’19 as against 109,919 MT in Feb’19.
