India: Mill Scale Exports Hit 5-Year Low in FY’19

Indian mill scale exports in FY19 recorded at 98,000 MT. Exports witnessed sharp drop of 52% against 207,400 MT in FY’18. The exports figure seems to be the lowest as per SteelMint data maintained for the last five years.

Indian mill scale exports declined all-time low in FY’19 as per data maintained from 2015 with SteelMint. Export volumes to China got hampered which had remained the largest destination for India mill scale exports. With the Chinese government laying stricter controls on the import of solid waste to the country, mill scale export volumes from India remained nil in FY’19.

KK Resources turned out to be the largest exporter in FY’19-: KK Resources stood the largest exporter of mill scale with 38,500 MT, down by 63% in FY’19 as against 104,400 MT in FY’18. Other major mill scale exporter was Swiss Singapore at 29,500 MT in FY’19.

Indian mill scale exporters eye non-Chinese markets – India mill scale export to China remained nil in FY’19. However, the export in FY’18 was recorded at 85,800 MT in FY’18.
Japan stood the largest mill scale importer from India in FY’19 with 59,500 MT against nil imports in FY’18. Other major destination for Indian mill scale exports was Philippines at 38,500 MT in FY’19.

Recent mill scale export vessel from India – In the month of April ’19, a mill scale export vessel carrying 38,500 MT quantity is seen at anchorage position at Kandla port. As per sources, the shipper is KK Enterprises.
