Pellet Imports to India Rise on Active Buying from Essar Steel

Indian iron pellet imports in CY18 recorded at 0.78 MnT. The imports witnessed significant rise on yearly basis as against 0.31 MnT in CY’17. The imports hit highest in four years since CY15 at 0.38 MnT.

On monthly basis, Iron pellet imports to India marked at 0.07 MnT in Dec’18, down slightly against 0.08 MnT in Nov’18. On yearly basis Dec’18 imports recorded sharp hike against nil imports in Dec’17.

Bahrain remained the sole pellet exporter in CY18

Bahrain stood the only exporter of pellet to India in CY18 at 0.78 MnT as against 0.27 MnT in CY17. Imports from Russia dropped to nil in CY18 as against 0.05 MnT in CY17.

Essar Steel imports increased in CY18

Essar Steel stood the only importer of pellets to India in CY18 at 0.78 MnT and imported entire quantity at Hazira port.
