Indian Finish Long Steel production moved up by 4.53% in first half (H1) of CY18 against same period of last year.
As per the recent data released by Joint Plant Committee, Finish long steel (Bar & rods and Structures) steel production in India by both large and medium/small scale producers stood at 23.78 MnT in Jan-Jun (H1) 2018 as against same time frame in last year at 22.75 MnT.
However, on monthly comparison the production down by 5.52% to 3.94 MnT in Jun’18 as compared to 4.17 MnT in May’18. Similar fall being observed on yearly premises against 3.8 MnT in Jun’17.
On monthly comparison in Jun’18, Finish long production by the large scale makers i:e; SAIL registered around 0.41 MnT (+ 2.5%) followed by RINL 0.34 MnT (0), Tata Steel 0.27 MnT (+12.5%), JSW 0.24 MnT (-33.34%) and JSPL 0.13 MnT (+8.34%).
Further the production by Medium & small scale producers also decreased by around 5.16% with 2.57 MnT in Jun’18 against 2.71 MnT in May’18.

It seems that seasonal slowdown demand has resulted down trend in monthly long steel production. Participants believed India’s Finished steel production likely to remain poor during July-Aug period as demand sluggish due to monsoon season.
Consumption
During Apr’18 to Jun’18 (Prov.), Finish long steel consumption commodity wise (Bars & Rods, Structure & Rly Material and excluding Pipes) considerably strengthening and registered Bars & Rods at 8.854 MnT against 8.489 MnT (+ 4.3%) following Structure at 2.121 MnT against 1.946 MnT (+ 9%) and Rly. Materials registered at 329,000 MT against 236,000 MT (+ 39.4%). Above changes are compared with Apr-Jun of last year.
