Japan’s billet exports recorded a gain of 18% M-o-M in May’18 & recorded highest volume of exports in 2018, as per the country’s custom.
The nation’s billet exports were recorded at 364,358 MT in May’18, surge by around 17.89% M-o-M against 309,059 MT in Apr’18. While it was experienced that exports to South Korea rise 55.30% M-o-M to 128,200 MT in May’18 as against 82,546 MT in Apr’18
Taiwan remains the largest importer of Japanese Billet in May’18, as the nation has contributing around 38.88% (141,314 MT), followed by South Korea (36.11%), Thailand (11.11%), China (5.55%) & United States (2.77%).
While on yearly basis in May’18, billet exports increased by 14.58% as against May’17 at 317,986 MnT
In the duration of Jan-May’18, Japan has exported about 1,613,785 MT billet, decline by around 0.31% Y-o-Y against 1,608,826 MnT during the same period in 2017. In CY17, the country’s billet export was around 3,995,981 MT & in CY16 it stood at 4,256,577 MT.
The crude steel production of Japan surge by 4.23% to 9,093,150 MT in Apr’18 against 8,723,449 MT in Apr’18 and in CY18 (Jan-May) it was approximately 44,224,377 MT. Meanwhile, in CY17 the figure of crude steel production stood at 104,656,927 MT, & 104,770,414 MT in CY16 .

— During Jan-May’18, Japan imported around 58.99% of iron ore from Australia, which was around 30.80 MnT. Meanwhile the import of iron ore in the same preceding last year stood at 30.65 MnT. Current offer of Fe 62% Fines (Australia) are at USD 65/MT CNF China.
— As per recent customs data, Japan exported 0.62 MnT ferrous scrap in May’18 witnessing a fall of 6.06% M-o-M as against 0.66 MnT in its scrap exports in Apr’18.
— Japanese H2 grade ferrous scrap export price assessment is at Yen 33,000/MT FOB Japan
— The export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 515-520/MT FoB India & 125*125 3sp at USD 510-515/MT FoB Ukraine.
