CIL Coal Dispatch

CIL Raises Coal Supplies for Power Plant

Coal India Ltd (CIL) in coordination with Railways has raised the rail loading from its siding to sustain the spurt in coal demand from the power sector.

CIL has reported loading of 243 rakes per day to the power plants during Apr’18-May’18, registering an increase of 23 rakes over the movement during the corresponding period of last fiscal. Moreover, 47 rakes were also loaded through the washery circuit and Railway Good-shed siding, to augment coal supplies to the power sector.

CIL’s total coal dispatch during Apr’18-May’18 period has increased 13% Y-o-Y to 103.84 MnT, compared with 91.7 MnT in Apr’17-May’17.

CIL has previously highlighted that the shortfall in power plants was due to the logistic issues as it had struggled to move coal to the power plants. The coal miner has underlined that it holds 44 MnT coal stock as on 31 May’18, claiming that there was no dearth of coal.

Besides enhancing dispatches through Rail mode, CIL had also emphasized on increasing the coal supplies through the road mode. The company had made provision for power plants having FSA which are located within the vicinity of 50-60 km of the mines, to lift coal by their own transport for further augmenting the dispatch.

The coal company has also requested the Ministry of Power to prevail upon the power plants situated within 20 km to lift their entire requirement by Road mode, to increase the rake availability for movement to power plants located far away from the mines.

Coal stock at the thermal power plants has fallen as a result of spurt in power demand for the summer season. According to the data provided by CEA, coal stock at the power plants (having coal linkage) was assessed at 14.819 MnT as on 31 May’18, sufficient for 9 days of power generation.
