South Africa: Manganese Ore Exports Declines Marginally in Apr’18

According to South African customs, the country has witnessed a mere decrease of 4% M-o-M in its Manganese Ore exports in Apr’18.

South Africa exported 1.52 MnT in Apr’18 against 1.58 MnT in Mar’18. However, on yearly basis, South African Manganese Ore exports recorded a substantial increase of 57% as it was 0.97 MnT in Apr’17.

On the quarterly basis, the import volume of South Africa in Q1CY18 is 6% higher than that of Q4CY17. In Q1CY18 South Africa imported 5.91 MnT against 5.59 MT in Q4CY17.

Manganese Ore exports from South Africa was affected a little as demand from China started retreating due to a high level of stock at their ports. Moreover, logistical issues from South Africa also added to the same.

China, being the largest importer of South African Manganese witnessed a fall of 14% M-o-M in Apr’18, followed by India, Japan, and South Korea, which also recorded a fall in their imports.
