Sweden is third-largest iron ore exporter in Europe after Russia and Ukraine. It exported 1.76 MnT iron ore in Feb’18. The exports witnessed 15% decline M-o-M basis as against exports of 2.06 MnT in Jan’18.
However, on yearly basis, Sweden has increased exports by 6% against 1.66 MnT in Feb’17 last year.
In CY’17, Sweden iron ore exports stood at 23.4 MnT. Major destinations were – Germany, Saudi Arabia, and the Netherlands.
In the first two months of 2018, Sweden has exported 3.81 MnT, down by 4% against 3.96 MnT in the same period last year.
In Feb’18, an agglomerated (pellets/concentrate) iron ore exports have recorded a decrease of 16% M-o-M to 1.43 MnT against 1.71 MnT in Jan’18. However, on yearly basis exports has increased by 5% against 1.36MnT in Feb’17.
The non-agglomerated (fines/lump) iron ore exports were down by 6% to 0.33 MnT in Feb’18, against 0.35 MnT in Jan’18. However, on Y-o-Y exports witnessed an increase by 10% in Feb’18 as compared to Feb’17 which was 0.3 MnT.
Germany turns out to be the highest iron ore importer from Sweden-:
Germany remained the largest importer of iron ore from Sweden with 28% of share to 0.49 MnT in Feb’18 against 0.54 MnT in Jan’18. Netherland turned out to be the second highest iron ore importer & its imported doubled to 0.34 MnT in Feb’18 against 0.16 MnT in Jan’18. Other major destinations for Sweden iron ore export were- Saudi Arabia (0.17 MnT), Egypt (0.17 MnT) and Turkey (0.16 MnT).
